WW1 Medal Pair and French Medal of Honour awarded to William Edward Woof. This gentleman was the Driver/Fireman destined for unknown fame when he was captured by photographer Charles E. Brown at Clapham Junction, leaning from his cab and looking down on a young boy carrying a tiny suitcase. The image was to become one of the most iconic Southern Railway Posters of all time I'm Taking An Early Holiday Cos I Know Summer Comes Soonest In The South'. Along with the medals are a further three badges that belonged to this man:- WW2 War Service Badge; a 'For Loyal Service' badge; Salonika Reunion Association 1915 - 19 enamel badge. Also, the original, framed & glazed certificate issued with the French Medal of Honour and a few photographs of the individual and a small copy of the poster itself. A quite significant artefact of our railway history.
