A unique opportunity to purchase a recently restored and fully operational standard gauge steam locomotive that has been a long-time favourite of volunteers, staff and visitors at the Kent & East Sussex Railway where it carries their fleet number 12.

The 0-4-0T was built in 1923 as works number 1631 by Peckett & Sons of Bristol and delivered new to Marcus Bain Ltd for use on its internal railway system at Mauchline sandstone quarry in East Ayrshire. Later it was sold to the West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co, and was then purchased by Manchester Oxide Company at Pendleton in the 1940s and was named after Marcia Clayton, the wife of the managing director James Clayton. The engine was withdrawn in 1962 and donated to the KESR and subsequently purchased by the late owner and is now being offered for sale by his executors.

The locomotive has recently undergone a full restoration which was completed in February 2022 and receipts are shown in the listing of the work that has been carried out.

The Kent & East Sussex Railway have indicated to our vendor that although their contract for the care of Marcia ends in May, they would be happy to continue having it based at the railway.
