Railway Wooden Police Truncheon, South Eastern Railway. Measuring 18 in length, it has the Victoria Crown at the top and block lettering 'SER beneath, laid out such that the 'S and E' are above the 'E'. Believed to be the early design as opposed to the design of the other SER Truncheon elsewhere in this sale. The decoration is worn but for an item of this age and use, it doesn't detract from the rarity and desirability. This is the very Truncheon illustrated and described in The History Of Truncheons by E.R.H. Dicken F.R.G.S. The South Eastern Railway opened in May 1842 between Croydon & Dover and although worked by the SECR from 1899, as a company, it remained in existence until grouping into the SR. It is likely that this Truncheon was issued before the SECR became involved.

Traveling Post Office Postal Covers, a complete set in an album together with a hardback book 'The British Traveling Post Office' by Peter Johnson. The set comprises 32 first day covers bearing Cuneos Famous Trains stamps individually cancelled with the date stamp of all 32 TPOs in existence at that time, on 22nd January 1985. These date stamps were unique to each TPO and only used for letters actually posted into the carriage at the station (or at a few 'late posting' boxes on major stations) With the recent demise of the TPO, this is a rare opportunity to own a significant piece of British transport history.
