226 London & South Western Railway wine waiters corkscrew & bottle opener, the blade engraved S.W.R.Coy.Ltd. and stamped with makers name Joseph Westby Sheffield. Dougal Drummond experimented with the abbreviation S.W.R on tank and tender sides of locos in 1895 and it also appears on some handlamps, probably dating this wine waiters tool to that year as the manufacturer ceased trading in 1896. An unusual item and rare survivor in very good condition and could be used again. Measures 3.5in long. Pewter flip-lid, the company initials inscribed on top of the neck. Has a largish repair to the rear around the handle, quite well done but visible, however, when displayed front on, it can't be seen. Together with an SR earthenware flagon of similar size, 10in tall with company initials on the neck and in very good, undamaged condition.
