Nameplate KING EDWARD VII ex Great Central Railway Robinson C5 4-4-2 built at Gorton in 1906 and numbered GCR 259 and LNER 5259 and 2896. Allocated to Leicester, Lincoln and withdrawn from Immingham in April 1947 and scrapped at Gorton works. Curved brass complete with the whole of the splasher mounting which is rare for this type of plate as most have been cut down for display. A black and white framed photograph of the locomotive accompanies the lot clearly showing the nameplate.
Auction: July 2024 Sold for: £3,900Nameplate GREAT NORTHERN ex GNR Gresley A1 Pacific 4-6-2 numbered GNR 1470, LNER 4470, 113 and BR 60113. Allocated to King's Cross, Grantham, New England and 36A Doncaster from where it was withdrawn in November 1962 and scrapped at Doncaster works. These nameplates were cast in August 1950 and applied in April 1951 when the locomotive received a heavy intermediate overhaul at Doncaster Works. Cast brass with original steel painted coat of arms face lightly polished. This plate is being sold on behalf of YMCA Doncaster.
Auction: July 2023 Sold for: £14,000Nameplate ST ALBAN'S HEAD ex LB&SCR Marsh Class H1 4-4-2 Atlantic built in 1912 at Brighton and numbered LB&SCR 426, SR 2426 and BR 32426. Allocated to Newhaven and 75A Brighton from where it was withdrawn in August 1956 and scrapped at Brighton Works. Curved cast brass nicely polished.
Auction: November 2022 Sold for: £4,500Nameplate LYNTON ex Southern Railway Bullied West Country Pacific 4-6-2 built at Brighton in 1946 and numbered SR 21C138 and BR 34038. Allocated to Stewarts Lane, Brighton, Plymouth Friary, Exmouth Junction, Eastleigh and 70A Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in June 1966. Scrapped at Cashmores Newport. Together with an original West Country Class Scroll. Both face restored.
Auction: March 2022 Sold for: £12,000Nameplate MERLIN + BADGE from the LNER Gresley A4 Pacific 4-6-2 LNER No 4486, 588 & 27 and BR No 60027. Built at Doncaster works in 1937 as works number 1851. Allocated new to Haymarket and St Rollox and finally 64A St Margarets from where it was withdrawn in September 1965 and scrapped at Campbells Shieldhall. Face restored a long time ago. A rare change to obtain a Bird A4 with badge and surely in the Pantheon of all nameplates. Neither nameplate has ever appeared publicly for sale before. See also the next Lot.
Auction: November 2021 Sold for: £35,000Nameplate SIR LIONEL ex Urie / Maunsell King Arthur 4-6-0 built by the North British Locomotive Company Glasgow in 1925 and numbered SR 786 and later BR 30786. Allocated to Nine Elms and 71A Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in August 1959 and scrapped later the same year. In face restored condition but not skimmed, rear stamped 786.
Auction: November 2021 Sold for: £5,000Nameplate BARHAM ex LMS Stanier Jubilee 4-6-0 built at Crewe in 1935 and numbered LMS 5653 and BR 45653. Allocated to Blackpool Central, Saltley and 9D Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn in April 1965. Scrapped later the same year at Drapers Hull. Face lightly restored and rear stamped with two dots indicating this is the right hand side plate.
Auction: November 2020 Sold for: £5,700Nameplate set BARNSTAPLE ex Southern Railway Bullied Light Pacific 4-6-2 built at Brighton in 1945 and numbered 21C105 and later 34005. Allocations included Exmouth Junction, Nine Elms, Stewarts Lane, Bricklayers Arms, Salisbury and 70F Bournemouth from where it was withdrawn in October 1966. Scrapped the following year at Buttigiegs Newport. The nameplate and scroll have been face restored and the enamel Town Coat Of Arms has had a small chip expertly repaired. A rare chance to obtain one of the best West Country names. The other side belongs to Barnstaple Town Council.
Auction: March 2020 Sold for: £15,500Nameplate shield from Bullied Battle Of Britain light Pacific 4-6-2 LORD BEAVERBROOK built at Brighton in 1947 and numbered 21C154 and later 34054. Allocations included Stewarts Lane, Salisbury and 72A Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn in September 1964. Scrapped at Birds Bynea in 1965. The original surround has been lightly cleaned but still has traces of BR green and the steel retaining band in the back has suffered corrosion at the bottom. The back of the shield has Clapham Museum reference numbers painted on. Measures 28in x 21.75in.
Auction: March 2020 Sold for: £4,600Nameplate BROUGHTON CASTLE ex GWR Collett Castle 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1935 and numbered 5033. Allocated to Stafford Road, Chester West, and 81F Oxford from where it was withdrawn in September 1962 and scrapped the same year at Cashmore's Great Bridge. Stamped in the back R IN No 5033 Lot 296 indicitaing this is the right hand nameplate and the front has been lightly cleaned and the first time either side has appeared for sale. Broughton Castle is a moated and fortified manor house near Banbury Oxfordshire.
Nameplate SHIRBURN CASTLE ex Great Western Railway Collett Castle 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1934 and numbered 5030. Allocations included Exeter, Cardiff Canton, Newport Ebbw Junction, Landore and 87G Carmarthen from where it was withdrawn in September 1962. Scrapped later the same year at Hayes Bridgend. In nicely cleaned condition.
Auction: July 2019 Sold for: £8,000Nameplate TREVITHICK ex Southern Railway Maunsell Remembrance 4-6-0 originally built in 1914 as a 4-6-4 Tank by the LBSCR and was rebuilt as a 4-6-0. Numbered SR 2327 and BR 32327. Allocated to 70D Basingstoke, it was withdrawn from there in January 1956 and scrapped later the same year. Face restored. One of only a small class of seven locomotives.
Auction: July 2019 Sold for: £7,500Nameplate STOKESAY CASTLE ex GWR Collett Castle 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1935 and named Stokesay Castle and numbered 5040. Allocated to Old Oak Common, Swindon and 82B St Phillips Marsh. Withdrawn in October 1963 and scrapped at Coopers Metals Sharpness the following year. In lightly cleaned condition and stamped RIN 5040 in the back.
Auction: July 2019 Sold for: £7,800Nameplate and badge KENLEY ex SR Bulleid Battle Of Britain 4-6-2 built at Brighton in 1947 and initially numbered 21C168 then 34068 in 1948. Allocated to Ramsgate, Stewarts Lane and lastly 72B Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in December 1963. Scrapped the following year at Eastleigh Works. The nameplate has been face restored and the badge, which was known to have been also carried by sister locomotive Sir Trafford Leigh Mallory, has been lightly cleaned. Named after RAF Kenley which was one of the three main fighter stations during The Battle Of Britain. A superb set.
Auction: March 2019 Sold for: £19,000Nameplate DITCHEAT MANOR ex Collett GWR/BR-W Manor 4-6-0 built at Swindon in 1950 and numbered 7821. Allocations included Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Tyseley, Newton Abbot, Croes Newydd, Machynlleth, Oxley and withdrawn from 84G Shrewsbury in October 1965. Named after a manor house near Shepton Mallet, the loco after being withdrawn was saved from Barry Scrapyard and restored. It is now owned by the West Somerset Railway Association. In nicely cleaned condition and stamped L7821 in the back indicating this was the left hand plate.

Ex GWR Collet 4-6-0 King Class Locomotive number 6020 built Swindon May 1930, Alfloc water treatment fitted 1954 and double chimney fitted in February 1956. Shedded at Plymouth Laira in 1948 and withdrawn from 84A Wolverhampton Stafford Road in July 1962, scrapped the following year at Cox & Danks Oldbury. In lightly cleaned condition, the rear of the plate is stamped R Lot 267 No 20 indicating this is the right hand plate. The cabside numberplate 6020 is the following lot.
Auction: November 2018 Sold for: £17,000Nameplate COUNTY OF WILTS. Ex GWR Hawksworth 4-6-0 County Class Locomotive number 1003 built Swindon October 1945. Shedded at Old Oak Common, Laira, Shrewsbury and withdrawn from 83D Laira in October 1962 scrapped in 1964 at Cashmore's Newport. In lightly cleaned condition ready to be repainted. This is the Right hand plate complete with splasher mounting.

First shed allocation was Shrewsbury, then 84A Stafford Road, 83A Newton Abbot and lastly 81A Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn in September 1962. Scrapped at Cashmores Great Bridge in November 1962. In original condition.
