Definitely a huge and popular category with just about every railway company having their own style of hand lamp used by Guards, Signalmen, Footplate Crew and P.Way staff. Used to light the way and for signalling, they are segregated into aspects, single being one front glass and multiple aspect having rotating colour lenses to indicate clear, red, green or yellow. Interestingly, the actual glass colour looks different but when mixed with the yellow flame from the burner, the correct colour is shown. As is usual, smaller companies are highly collectable and odd styles are a bonus. Cartage Lamps and older Vehicle Lamps can also be in this category and although Loco Lamps are somewhat separate, any lamp carried by hand will be of interest to discerning handlamp collectors.
