The Eric Ellis Collection of American Steam Locomotive Builders Plates

Eric Ellis was the long standing engineer for the 6201 Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society from the late 1960s to 1993. During this time he was responsible for bringing 6201 to mainline running order and maintaining her to the very high standards he always set for himself as a career long professional engineer. He joined the society when the locomotive was based at Ashchurch, moved with it initially to Hereford and subsequently to Butterley. Eric was born on 17th November 1943 which happens to be the anniversary of Lizzie's record breaking run in 1936 so perhaps his involvement with this famous locomotive was more than just happenstance. Eric also had a great interest in American and Canadian steam, particularly the Norfolk & Western, and his passion is clearly evidenced in this special auction. It was no coincidence that on select occasions 6201 Lizzie was fitted with Eric's home made replica N&W J class chime whistle - and it sounded absolutely fabulous!

Eric sadly passed away earlier this year and we are privileged to have been asked by his family to handle the sale of this collection.”
