Worksplate GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY CO No 1536 MAKERS DONCASTER 1922 REBUILT 1945 ex GNR Gresley A1 Pacific 4-6-2 numbered GNR 1470, LNER 4470, 113 and BR 60113 and named Great Northern. Allocated to King's Cross, Grantham, New England and 36A Doncaster from where it was withdrawn in November 1962. Scrapped at Doncaster works. Oval engraved brass, face polished, with 4470 and 113 stamped in the back. Measures 12.5in x 7.5in. 1470 entered traffic one hundred years ago on 11th April 1922. It was rebuilt in 1945 as a prototype for Edward Thompsons A1 class and this GNR worksplate had the company letters filled and a rebuilt plate inserted; a unique feature not seen on any other LNER locomotive. This is a truly historic plate.
