Worksplate 'Designed and Supplied By Brush Loco Number 875 - 1986 Brush Electrical Machines Ltd., Loughborough England, a Hawker Siddeley Company - Built By B.R.E.L. Crewe'. Ex prototype, and unique electric loco Class 89 001. Only one unit was built, being the officially named Avocet by the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on 16 January 1989 at Sandy, Bedfordshire, home of the RSPB (whose logo is the Avocet). Used on test-trains on both the West Coast Main Line and East Coast Main Line. Fitted with advanced power control systems developing over 6,000 bhp (4,500 kW). Although nicknamed Aardvark enthusiasts nicknamed it The Badger owing to its sloping front. Ex loco condition.
