Introduced July 1959 and allocated to Crewe to work West Coast Main Line expresses. Renumbered 40017 in March 1974. Withdrawn from Widnes in 1981 and cut up at Swindon in August of that year. Clean ex loco with 90% of the original blue paint extant, chrome plating visible where paint has flaked.
