Worksplate BLACK HAWTHORN & Co ENGINEERS GATESHEAD ON TYNE No 225 1873. Ex 4-4-0T supplied to the Prince Edward Island Railway Canada and numbered locomotive 7. With the plate is an old typed piece of paper stating the plate was acquired by Alfred J Houle who was the foreman of the locomotive shops in Charlottetown and used for many years as a marker on his front door, he retired in 1922 and the plate was passed down through the family after his death in 1937 and later sold, it also records that the locomotive was scrapped in or before 1884. Oval hand engraved brass and unusually engraved both sides probably because the clean side was rejected because the date is not central. An exceptionally rare plate and the earliest Black Hawthorn known to have survived.
