Ships Plaque for HMS SHROPSHIRE mounted on a wooden shield and bearing a brass inscription beneath ' Presented By The Lords Commissioners Of The Admiralty To The Urban District Of Market Drayton To Commemorate The Adoption Of HMS SHROPSHIRE During Warship Week February Feb 14th 1942. The ship was a heavy cruiser, launched 5 July 1928 gaining battle honours in both the Atlantic and Arctic in WWII. Decommissioned in December 1942 and transferred to the Royal Australian Navy gaining battle honours in New Guinea, Layte Gulf, Lingayen Gulf, Borneo and the Pacific. Sold for scrapping, 16 July 1954.
