Norfolk & Suffolk Joint Railway 16in dial teak cased railway clock with a cast brass bezel with the clock number 3653 scratched into the hinge. The rectangular plated chain driven English fusee movement has snailed plates with N&S stamped onto the backplate and are held together by turned screwed pillars, this would have been supplied to the N&S circa 1903 when the station opened. The original dial is lettered N&S JOINT LINE. The case has one side door and a bottom door secured with a brass lock ( key missing) The LNER clock records show the clock as being in use at Hopton On Sea station platform. The clock would have been taken out of service in 1970 when the station closed and was sold to the previous owner by British Railways Norwich. In working order but not checked for accuracy complete with pendulum and key. A truly important clock and the first one of these joint clocks to appear at auction in basically as removed condition. A copy of the clock record accompanies the lot.
