Nameplate LYDFORD CASTLE. Ex GWR 4-6-0 locomotive built Swindon Works in June 1946 and allocated to Shrewsbury. Was at Gloucester in the early 1950's and then Laira. Withdrawn from Old Oak Common in December 1963. The plate was originally fitted to Castle Class number 5055 which later became Earl Of Eldon. The nameplate was then transferred to loco number 7006 and this is borne out by the rear stampings .Face restored long ago, rear original and bearing the stampings 'LIN No 5055 Lot 303 L7006'. Original BR paperwork accompanies. First time at auction.
