Nameplate LAMBTON CASTLE ex LNER Gresley B17 4-6-0 rebuilt to Class B17/2 in 1931 and B17/6 in 1948. Built at Darlington in 1931 and numbered 2823, renumbered 1623 in 1946 and lastly BR 61623. Allocated to 31A Cambridge for most of its working life and withdrawn from there in July 1959 and scrapped later the same year at Doncaster Works. Nicely face restored and displayed on a purpose built free standing splasher. Lambton Castle is a stately home, the ancestral seat of the Lambton family, the Earls of Durham and stands above Chester-Le-Street, County Durham.
