Nameplate GOLDEN EAGLE from the LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4482 / 60023. Built at Doncaster works in December 1936. Allocated initially to Kings Cross it eventually settled at Gateshead in January 1942 and lastly at Aberdeen Ferryhill in May 1964 from where it was withdrawn in October 1964. It was cut up at Motherwell Machinery & Scrap during December 1964. Face restored a long time ago rear ex loco and hand gravered R H signifying this was the Right hand side, also a small brazed repair that was done in service, the Left hand side plate is known to be a later replacement so one wonders if that side suffered a larger crack. One of the most evocative A4 bird named plates to ever come on to the market.
