Nameplate EARL OF BIRKENHEAD. Ex GWR 4-6-0 Castle Class Locomotive, built Swindon in June 1937 and allocated to Shrewsbury, remaining there until after nationalisation. Originally named Sudeley Castle but renamed just 4 months later, in October 1937. Double chimney and 4 row superheater fitted September 1958. By March 1959 shed allocation was Reading. Last shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Withdrawn September 1962. Scrapped at Cashmore's, Newport. A lovely plate with original splasher as fitted to earlier class of locomotive.
