Nameplate BARBURY CASTLE. Ex GWR 4-6-0 Castle Class Locomotive built Swindon Works in March 1936 and numbered 5043 Initially allocated to Old Oak. 5043 was renamed EARL OF MOUNT EDGCUMBE in 1937 and BARBURY CASTLE was affixed to a newer Castle built August 1939 and numbered 5095. This loco was allocated to Laira and finished up at Shrewsbury in 1960 from where withdrawal took place in August 1962. Stamped L 5095 Lot 303 in rear. Note: Barbury Castle is an Iron Age hill fort in Wiltshire.
