A marble and bronze Presentation Clock with brass plate 'Presented to Mr Edward Newson by his colleagues on retirement from the service of the Great Western Railway Company Paddington December 1907. This highly important timepiece is French as is the movement which strikes on half and full hours. In full working condition. Note Edward Newson retired from the Office of the Superintendent of the Line in 1907. He began his career at Ross-on-Wye in 1867 as a Booking Clerk. He became Station Master at Minety near Stroud and then Taplow and in 1879 was appointed Chief Clerk to Alfred Higgins. Became Station Superintendent at Oxford in 1879 and finally in 1882 Superintendent of the GWR Parcels Department.
