Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Wooden letter B from the Station Nameboard at Bratton Fleming. Mounted on oak shield with extremely old, handwritten inscription, on paper pinned to the reverse. The inscription is difficult to read in places but states: The Letter B taken from the old station at Bratton Fleming by Geoff, Betty and Shirley. Aug: 9th 1937. The wood found in back yard by Leslie Ashmore. The wooden plaque has a neat round holes in it where it had originally served another purpose and the wooden B has fine splits where it has been attached to the plaque with panel pins. The B has a black finish which is wearing thin in places showing the white primer beneath. What an amazing piece of history to go with the other L&B items in the sale.Overall size 9, letter B 4 tall.
