London and Birmingham Railway Guards watch By Joseph Fenn of London. A brass and mahogany cased fusee Guards Watch dating from circa 1837, this important timepiece was used by Guards, set and locked at Euston, then travelled with the Guard so he could confirm the time at the Stations at which they stopped. Certainly in use before Greenwich time signals were sent by Telegraph. The Brass case is hand engraved to the front Joseph Fenn London and to the rear Euston Station No3 1797. The English Lever fusee movement is in working condition. This is another rare and important railway timepiece to come onto the market with us. Complete with the key to wind and set it. Joseph Fenn is recorded as working from Newgate Street, London and was also elected 3 times the Master of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers for 1842, 1843 and 1863.
