Locomotive Nameplate SAINT BENET'S HALL. Ex GWR 4-6-0 locomotive, built Swindon in March 1935 and latterly numbered 5947. Initially allocated to Oxley. Later allocations include Old Oak Common and Banbury. Withdrawn July 1962 and scrapped at Swindon Works. Face restored, rear ex loco and clearly stamped 'R 5947 Lot No 290' indicating the right hand plate. Note: St Benet's Hall, founded in 1897, is a Permanent Private Hall (PPH) of the University of Oxford. It is located at the northern end of St Giles' on its western side, close to the junction with Woodstock Road.
