KDEV brass Locomotive Emblem featuring the Imperial Eagle of the German Empire 1889 - 1918. Measuring 9.75 inches in diameter, this very scarce plate is believed to have originated from what was German South West Africa (now Namibia) The initials stand for Kaiserlich Deutsche Elsenbahn Verwaltung which translates to Imperial German Railway Administration. Unlike the more common KPEV plate, this was used on German Colonial Railways and bears a very different 'spread eagle'. The first locos would have been used on the 1895 built Swakopmund to Windhoek line that was completed in 1902. A wonderful plate in lightly cleaned condition.
