Midland Railway 10 inch pine cased weight driven railway clock supplied and manufactured by Reuben Bosworth of Nottingham. The early weight driven movement has A shaped plates with cut out to the bottom, which are held together by turned pillars with a central ring, these features date it around 1860. The original dial has been rewritten by N. Ball & Son of Leicester who took over the service and maintenance of clocks in the Nottingham & Leicester areas but Bosworth is clearly visible as ghosted writing. The case is of rectangular design manufactured from pine and has a bottom door and two side access doors, the case would have been originally been combed with paint to look like Oak but was repainted in LMS maroon and black probably in the 1930's the LMS brass oval numberplate 12028 is affixed to the front, inside the case are various dates and signatures of the signalmen who worked in the signal box, these early weight driven clocks were used in signal boxes where accurate time keeping was important. Reuben Bosworth is recorded as working in Upper Parliament Street Nottingham between 1808 and 1877 and was an early supplier to the Midland Railway. In working condition complete with weight pendulum and key.

Great Western Railway 14 inch oak cased English fusee railway clock supplied to probably the Vale of Neath or Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railways by Hennessy of Swansea circa 1860. The oak case with a one piece convex surround, cast brass bezel, two side doors and a bottom door with the lock removed and secured by the GWR modified ball bearing catch and has an GWR ivorine numberplate 3113 screwed to it. The original dial which has been lightly restored is lettered GWR in Roundel and also visible as ghosted writing is G.W.R. in block lettering and HENNESSY SWANSEA. The brass chain driven fusee movement has rectangular plates. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key. Bernard Hennessy of 5 wind Street Swansea is associated with supplying clocks to the two Welsh pre grouping companies mentioned. An impressive clock.

Charles Dickens ex 70033 Nameplate CHARLES DICKENS ex BR Standard Class 7MT Britannia 4-6-2 No 70033 built at Crewe. Allocated new to Holyhead on 13 December 1952, then to Longsight where it spent seven years. and later sheds included Trafford Park, Willesden, Crewe North and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in July 1967 and scrapped at Campbells Airdrie in October 1967. Face restored.

Barry Railway 12 inch Oak cased English fusee railway clock with a spun brass bezel supplied to the Barry Railway circa 1870 to 1880 by Barry & Sons of Cardiff. The quality English chain driven fusee movement with thick A frame plates that are held together by turned tapered pillars, is in fully restored condition. The white enamel painted dial displaying bold block style Roman numerals and the legend Barry Railway Co, Barry & Sons, Cardiff. This particular dial writing is unique and has never had GWR lettering applied the dial has been lightly restored by Dr D.R. Parr. The clock comes with its original BR paper label returning it from Caerphilly to AA Gardane Chief Signalling and Telegraph engineer S&T dept Reading. An extremely rare clock and the only one with this dial writing known to exist. Complete with pendulum and key.

Smokebox numberplate 43887 ex Fowler 4F 0-6-0 built at Derby in 1919. Allocated to 22B Gloucester Barnwood, 85C Gloucester Barnwood and 85B Gloucester Horton Road from where it was withdrawn in February 1965. Scrapped two months later at Cashmores Newport. Has been restored and has a neat weld and the copy of the original sale letter from John Cashmore clearly states that it was removed in damaged condition.

London and South Western Railway 8 inch mahogany cased English fusee railway clock with a spun brass bezel supplied to the LSWR circa 1898 by John walker of London. The quality English fusee movement with rectangular plates held together by turned tapered pillars, is in fully restored condition. The white enamel painted dial displaying BR(S) JOHN WALKER 1 SOUTH MOLTON ST LONDON 7582 SW has been restored. The Southern Railway clock records show that this was supplied in 1898 by John Walker at a cost of ?2-12-6d and was last recorder in use at Falconwood station Booking Hall. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key.

GWR cast iron cabside numberplate 7304 ex Churchward 2-6-0 built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn Ltd in 1922. Allocated initially to Severn Tunnel Junction, it then spent most of its life at 83B Taunton where it was frequently seen on the Barnstaple line. Withdrawn from there in December 1963 and scrapped at Birds Risca in June 1964. Face restored with boiler and class details stamped in the rim.

Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 12 inch walnut cased English fusee railway clock supplied to the railway circa 1870 probably by John Agar of Bury. The walnut case with a one piece flat angled surround, spun brass bezel, one side door with the hinges stamped LYR and a bottom door secured by a brass catch is branded LYR three times and has an LMS brass numberplate 7938 pinned to it. The original dial which has been lightly restored is lettered L.Y.R. 1586. The brass wire driven fusee movement has rectangular plates. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key. A stunning and unusual LYR clock.

Great Eastern Railway 12 inch teak cased English fusee railway clock supplied to the railway circa 1890. The case with a one piece turned convex surround, cast brass bezel, one side door and a bottom door secured by a brass lock also retains its green baize lining to the front of the back box. The dial has been repainted post 1960 by the British Rail clock workshops at Doncaster with Arabic numerals and is lettered BR 942. The brass chain driven movement has rectangular plates which are stamped GER and also have a snailed finish applied as was common practice with Great Eastern clocks. The LNER clock records show that this clock as being last in use at Liverpool Street Station London, Supts Office No 16, Hamilton House. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key.

Nameplate QUENTIN DURWARD ex GWR Saint 4-6-0 2979. Originally built in 1905 as a 4-4-2 numbered 179 and named Magnet. It was renamed Quentin Durward in March 1907 and then rebuilt as a 4-6-0 in August 1912. Allocations were Bristol Bath Road, 86A Newport Ebbw Junction from where it was withdrawn in January 1951. In restored condition.

Great Northern Railway 12 inch mahogany cased English fusee railway clock supplied by John Smiths of Derby circa 1890. The case with a single piece turned convex surround, cast brass bezel, two side doors and a bottom door secured by a brass lock. The original dial is lettered LNER 9245 and also visible as ghosted writing is GNR 436 JOHN SMITH & SONS MIDLAND CLOCK WORKS QUEEN STREET DERBY. The brass wire driven movement has rectangular plates with shaped shoulders and has been professionally cleaned and overhauled. The LNER clock records show that this clock as being last in use at Awsworth and was GNR clock no 436. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key and DR D.R. Parr sheet detailing the clocks provenance and restoration and a copy of the LNER clock record.

Caledonian Railway 13 oak cased English style fusee drop dial railway clock by Winterhalder & Hofmeier of Schwarzenbach Germany. The case with a four piece turned convex surround, spun brass bezel, one side door and a bottom door secured by a brass turn. The original dial which has been lightly restored reads Caledonian Rail Co. The brass wire driven fusee movement has rectangular plates and is stamped W&H SCH. A nice pre grouping Scottish clock in full working order complete with pendulum and key.

Midland and Great Northern Railway 12 inch mahogany cased English fusee railway clock supplied by John Smiths of Derby circa 1890.The case with an eight piece turned convex surround, spun brass bezel, two side doors and a bottom door secured by a brass catch. The original dial has been lightly restored and is lettered M&GN 11598 also visible as ghosted writing is SUTTON BRIDGE JUNCTION SIGNAL BOX. The brass wire driven movement has rectangular plates and has just been professionally cleaned and overhauled. The LNER clock records show that this clock as being last in use at Sutton Bridge Station Booking Hall and was sold to Clerk Bone from Long Sutton Station on the 20th May 1965 a scan from the LNER clock register is with the clock confirming this. The M&GN clocks are the only railway clocks that had the original location painted on the dial and seldom appear for sale. A rare clock complete and in working condition with pendulum and key.

Nameplate SIR RALPH VERNEY ex Metropolitan Railway 1200 Hp electric locomotive number 3 Built in 1921 by Metropolitan-Vickers. Named after Sir Ralph Verney who became Lord Mayor of London in 1645. The Verney family were involved in the building of Railways which became part of the Metropolitan railway around 1900 with Verney Junction taking the family name. The fleet of 20 locos originally carried brass nameplates which were removed for the war effort although some from the class survived. Cast aluminium plates were fitted after the war circa 1955 and the loco was withdrawn on 29/1/62, cut up by Cashmores of Newport within Ruislip depot during May 1965. The other nameplate was presented by LT to the Verney family for display at Claydon House near Bletchley, the house being presented to the National Trust back in 1956. The locomotives were used for trains between The City, Baker Street and Rickmansworth, where steam took over for the journey to Aylesbury. They are by far the oldest named main line electric locos. In face restored condition measures 45.5in x 6in.

GWR cast iron cabside 9709 ex Collett 0-6-0 PT built at Swindon in December 1933. This was one of ten of the class that were built with Condensing Apparatus for use on the London Transport Metropolitan Line. Shedded at 81A Old Oak Common all its life from where it was withdrawn in May 1962 and cut up four months later at Cashmores Newport. Face restored, a rare chance to obtain a cabside from a condensing loco.

London and South Western Railway 8 inch Mahogany cased iron dial fusee clock with a cast brass bezel supplied to the LSWR circa 1893 by John Gaydon of Barnstaple. The quality English fusee movement with rectangular plates held together by turned tapered pillars, is in fully restored condition. The white enamel painted dial has been restored to its pre grouping dial writing L&SWR Jno GAYDON BARNSTAPLE 128 the case is stamped 128 in the back and also the bezel hinge has 128 stamped in it, these were applied by John Walker. The Southern Railway clock records show that this was supplied in 1893 by John Gaydon at a cost of ?2-17-6d and was last recorded in use at Rye Platform and previously Winchelsea Snailham Crossing, the clock must have moved from the West Country very soon after the 1923 grouping. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key and DR D.R. Parr sheet detailing the clocks provenance and restoration and a copy of the SR clock record.

North London Railway 12 inch mahogany cased English fusee railway clock supplied to the railway in 1852 by Thwaites & Reed of Clerkenwell london. The case with a one piece turned convex surround, cast brass bezel secured by a bezel lock, one side door and a bottom door secured by a brass catch is branded NLR Y twice and has an LMS brass numberplate 12289 pinned to it. The original dial is lettered N.L.R.Y THWAITES & REED CLERKENWELL and retains its original brass Thwaites hands. The brass chain driven movement has rectangular plates which are stamped on the front plate T&R 12289, this dates the clock from the Thwaites records to 1852. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key. A stunning clock from one of the top London makers.

Great Central Railway 8 inch mahogany cased railway clock supplied by Seth Thomas of Connecticut America circa 1900. The original dial is lettered G.C.Ry No 1139. The Seth Thomas movement is of the marine type with twin going barrels and the clock may have been used in one of the companies ships before being housed in its ornately carved case. The case stands 15in tall x 20in wide and has a label attached to the rear Supplies & Contracts manager clock and watch section Doncaster 29th Feb 1968. The clock works intermittently so might benefit from a clean complete with key. An unusual clock.

Midland Railway 12 inch oak cased English fusee railway drop dial clock supplied by John Smiths or Rock of Derby circa mid 19 th century. The case with a eight piece turned convex moulded surround, spun brass bezel, two side doors and a bottom door secured by a brass lock and its LMS brass oval numberplate 15182 pinned to the drop. The original dial is lettered BR and would have been repainted in the late 1960's. The brass wire driven movement has rectangular plates with shaped shoulders and has been professionally cleaned and overhauled. Complete and in working condition with pendulum and key.

First allocation was Old Oak Common in August 1932 other allocations included Newton Abbot, Stafford Road, 82A Bristol Bath Road, 82C Swindon, 85B Gloucester Horton Road, 86C Cardiff Canton and lastly 81D Reading from where it was withdrawn in March 1964, Scrapped at Cohens Kettering in November 1964. In lightly cleaned original condition and stamped in the back LIN No 5018 Lot 280 indicating this is the left hand plate. One of only a few Cornish named Castles and the first time either plate has been available at auction.
