GWR brass oval Worksplate SWINDON No. 128 JAN 1886. A most wonderful plate in original condition measuring just 6 x4 and coming from the Shrewsbury area. The company initials are in black wax fill, the border and remaining text/numerals in red wax fill. Research has proven extremely difficult but it is the same as the Rail Motor plate in Buckle/Love Worksplate Book except the Rail Motor plates began with a zero. General opinion is that it may be a Stationary Boiler plate (it is slightly curved) or even a very early Travelling Crane plate. This is the first time such a plate has come to market.
