Great Northern Railway (Ireland) 3 aspect Signalman's Handlamp brass plated 'THURLES 8'. Complete with original reservoir clearly stamped G.N.R.I and burner. The lamp body is also stamped 'THURLES 8' and the reducing cone is stamped 'CIE' indicating a later addition. A lovely lamp in excellent condition. Note, Thurles station is in Co. Tipperary and opened in March 1848. It is famed for the location of the arrest of William Smith O'Brien who performed many crimes during The Famine in the mid 19th century.
