Flying Scotsman rebuild plate as fitted to the Driver's (left hand side) cabside of Flying Scotsman in 1978 following a major overhaul at the Vickers workshops in Barrow-in-Furness. The plate (one of two) was carried until 1985 in the same position as the original Doncaster worksplate. They were removed in order to prepare the locomotive for overhaul and then presented to the Carnforth Steamtown regular fireman of Flying Scotsman and to the driver, Patrick Mullee, from whom it was acquired by the vendor. Flying Scotsman was the first locomotive to be overhauled at Vickers for more than half a century and this item is unique in having the image of the loco as part of the plate. Oval cast brass lightly cleaned.
