Firemans Call Box, almost certainly of LMS origin, mounted on a wooden plinth. This ex lineside instrument was recovered from the Wolverhampton area and is basically a tombstone shaped, C/I item that sat at the base of a home signal. Used by the Loco Fireman when a train was halted at the signal. It was a device to alert the signalman of the trains presence and would have been interlocked with the block instrument to protect the rear of the train. The unit is clearly embossed Firemans Call Box, Press Plunger. If Hooter Does Not Sound - Go To Box. A real rarity.
