Cornish Mining Truncheon. A very rare example with typical square sectioned head painted overall in red and decorated in gilt with a crown 'V.R.', Royal Coat of Arms and inscribed 'R.D. Knuckey Gwennap Co'. Research shows that Richard Knuckey, BORN 1822 IN Treweeg Stithians, Cornwall. He married Mary Thomas in Gwennap on 15th Oct 1844. He appears in the 1841 & 1851 census, occupation Copper Miner, then Mine Agent employed at the Gwennap Consolidated Mining Company.
