Smokebox Numberplate 45308. Ex Stanier 4-6-0 Class 5 locomotive, built Armstrong Whitworth under works number 1363 in 1937. Allocations include Aston, Bescot, Walsall, Monument Lane, Bushbury and Northampton. Withdrawn August 1967 and cut up at Cohens, Kettering. Ex loco condition. A copy of the Engine Record Card accompanies.

Great Western Railway cast iron Station Name Letters DEVONPORT, except one 'O' is missing. Three other letters are broken but as recovered from Devonport station. Hollow cast, interestingly the 'V' must have been replaced at some point because it is solid cast and heavier than the rest of the letters. The station was built by the Cornwall Railway and opened on 4 May 1859.

South African Railways dual language brass Cabside Numberplate 4010 GEA. Ex Garratt 4-8-2+2-8-4 metre gauge locomotive built by Beyer Peacock, Manchester in 1945 under works number 7177. Ex loco condition bearing the red background to the number and the pale blue background to the company.

Enamel Advertising Signs qty 2:- 'Will's Star Cigarettes', red and black lettering on a white ground, 38 x 14, very good overall condition. Together with 'Player's Country Life Smoking Mixture', white lettering on green ground, 24 x 5, some bolt hole chipping: Together with 'Smoke Craven A - Will Not Affect Your Throat'. Target shape with brand across the middle, red lettering on white. The outer circle is red, orange and beige colour with black text on a yellow ground. Measures 24 x 22 and is in very good condition with only minor chipping and no restoration at all.

White lettering on deep blue ground measuring 15 x 10. Deep colour and shine, one chip top right just clear of the text; 'Albanoids - The Best Aperient For Adults - 2d, 6d and 1/- Tins. White lettering on a deep blue ground, 18 x 12. In excellent condition with deep colour and shine, very minor edge chipping. The makers name 'Stotherts Ltd Chemists Atherton, Lancs.' appears bottom right.

GNR 8 mahogany cased, Fusee Clock by John Walker. Supplied to the GNR with pre-grouping number 789, in the late 19th century. Original cast bezel (no glass) & pendulum. No key but has been wound and appears to be in working order. The dial has been re-written in Arabic style showing 'BR' and the number 9648. Records show that this was from the Booking Office at Finsbury Park station.

Poster Chemins de Fer de L'Etat et de Brighton (French State Railways & Brighton Railways) 'Paris a Londres par Rouen, Dieppe & Newhaven - Departs Tout Les Jours matin et soir de la Gare St Lazare' by Maurie Toussaint, double royal size 40 x 25 on canvas, circa 1907. A very early poster depicting a classic Horse Guards Parade in London with a small window bottom left showing 1st, 2nd and 3rd class fares. Slight repair bottom margin otherwise very good for age although the linen edges are fraying a little.

Tyers steel and brass Single Line Tablet PLYMSTOCK - TURNCHAPEL No 4. Ex L&SWR branch that originated at Plymouth Friary, built in January 1897. It ran through one intermediate station, Oreston. Passenger trains were withdrawn in 1951 and Goods trains were withdrawn in October 1961.

Nameplate TIDMARSH GRANGE. Ex GWR 'Grange' Class 4-6-0 locomotive built Swindon in 1937 receiving the number 6847 and initially allocated to Weymouth. Spent most of the 1950's at Tyseley before departing to South Wales to spend time at Newport and Cardiff. Final allocation was Worcester from where withdrawal took place in December 1965. Cut up at Buttigieg's, Newport. Lightly cleaned, the plate has been in singular ownership since purchase from BR. Note: Tidmarsh Grange is steeped in Berkshire's history being a 12th century Manor and not becoming Grange status until 1881.

LMS Menus mounted in glazed frames and signed by celebrities of the 1930's & 1940's The first menu is dated 7/3/37and is signed by George Formby and his wife Beryl. Next, in the same frame, is dated 26/2/36 and is signed by Paul Robeson. Next is signed by Gracie Fields and date 1938. Finally, menu dated 24/10/37 and is signed by Jack Payne. British Railways 12 mahogany cased iron dial fusee clock number 14094 circa 1950. The English fusee movement with wire to the fusee is in good working condition. The Liner clock records show that this clock was last in use at Doncaster, Yard Master Shakespeare Dock, Amenity Block and was sold to collectors corner Euston on the 10th October 1983. Complete with pendulum and key.

Nameplate LYTHAM ST. ANNES Ex Sulzer Class 45 'Peak' Class Locomotive D60, later 45022, built at Crewe and entered traffic February 1962. Initial allocation was Derby where naming took place without ceremony in May 1964. Withdrawn July 1987 then transferred to Departmental Stock at Tinsley as number 97409 for a further year. Scrapped at MC Metals Glasgow in October 1991. Original metal plate measuring 55 x 6 retaining all original studs' loco condition

Worksplate Hudswell Clarke & Co Ltd Leeds No 1734 of 1943. Ex 0-4-0 ST standard gauge. New to Harrington Shore Works near Workington as HSW No 1. Transferred to Steetly Lime and Basic Co Ltd, Coxhoe Co Durham and then to Swan Village Gas Works as SV 21. The sidings of the Gas Works branched from the Birmingham end of Swan Village Station.

Enamel Advertising Sign 'Hudson's Soap', white lettering with black shadow on a green ground and red border. A small panel left and right bottom has the familiar LNS Lamp shining a beam with the company name within. Measures 18 x 12 and is in excellent condition with deep colour and shine, just a few minor edge chips well away from the text.

Enamel Advertising Pub Sign, 44 x 36 'Wm. Hancock & Co Ltd - Railway Tavern Hotel'. A fine, multi-coloured pictorial sign showing an early GWR locomotive in silhouette with a Victorian GWR Guard holding a handlamp giving right of way. South Wales origin. Enamel pub signs are increasingly scarce to come by, this one is in excellent condition with just a couple of areas of chipping.

Hasler Train Event Recorder used on the 'KINGSTON FLYER' Royal Train in New Zealand. It was removed in 1923 and presented to a couple of individuals mentioned later. In 1927 it was re-fitted during the attempt to break the Australian/New Zealand Rail Speed Record. The 11 diameter glass faced, open dial has an enamel segment showing 0 - 60 mph and also bears the makers name 'Hasler Telegraph Works, 26 Victoria Street, Westminster S.W.' The opposite segment has the G.Hasler Switzerland name and logo with a list of patent numbers in various countries. The main part of the dial is open and the mechanism is clear to see including the recording paper showing a graphical representation of the speed. The paper rolls into a drum type receptacle on the side of the unit and this has a brass plate fitted ' Property of Wakefield Castrol Collection - No 21455 Aust'. Across the centre of the dial is a brass plate engraved '1927 Speed Trial NZ - Aust'. Mounted on a scallop cornered wooden presentation base, it carries a fine brass plaque ' Presented 17th August 1923 From All At Waygood - Otis (Aust) Pty Ltd. - To D.W.R. Green Esq and Charles Wakefield N.Z. and Australia - Removed From H.M. Royal Train KINGSTON FLYER - Record Speed Winner - Central Otago, South Island'. Both recipients travelled on the train on behalf of Otis Lifts and Castrol fuelled both the train and the lifts. A small Album given to DWR Green featuring the signatures of the invited guest passengers from his Australian Company accompanies. Note that this incredibly rare Recorder came from the Australian Wakefield Collection through auction. Note: Charles Wakefield set up the British Oil Company on 19th March 1899 and 10 years later produced a new lubricant he named 'Castrol

GWR Nameplate DARTMOOR. Ex 4-4-0 'Dukedog' Class built Swindon December 1896 and numbered 3276, later renumbered 3269. Initial allocation believed to have been Westbourne Park and later quite probably Devon. Withdrawal was in March 1937 and the accompanying receipt from the GWR Stores Superintendent at Swindon, shows that the plate was sold for 17/6d (75 pence in funny money) in April 1938. LNWR framed and glazed advertising poster 24 x 19, the colour poster shows a map of the whole of the LNWR system with coloured vignettes of Holyhead, Morecambe, Killarney, Menai Bridge, Lichfield Cathedral, Greenore, Lime St Liverpool, Llandudno and Windermere, this was used in the LNWR offices in Paris and has the original French framers label to the back.

LBSCR 10-inch Mahogany cased iron dial fusee clock with a cast brass bezel, supplied to the London Brighton and South Coast Railway by William Wright in 1850. The quality English fusee movement of typical London style has square plates with shaped shoulders and a cut out at the bottom held together by turned tapered pillars, the white enamel painted dial displaying bold Roman numerals and the legend B.R.(S). John Walker 1, South Molton St London 158.B. The clock retains its original cast bezel with a convex glass and the rear of the case has been stamped 158.B. which was applied on or after the grouping of the Southern Companies. The Southern clock records show that this clock was originally supplied by William Wright of Tooley St London in 1850 and last saw service at Newhaven Harbour and was situated in the South Signal Box. William Wright (1828-1851) supplied 108 clocks to the fledgling London Brighton and South Coast Railway from 1841-1861, this particular clock is not only one of his earliest supplied clocks but one of only four of this type and so far the only known survivor. A rare and desirable timepiece from a recorded London maker in working condition complete with pendulum and key.

GWR Bowling Club Bowls, a matching pair. Each has a Great Western Railway B.C. label on the top and each has a GWR Shield logo on the bottom. Made by RW Hensell & Sons, Australia (est 1918) they have the stamp 'Supergrip' and 'Championship' indicating manufacture in 1959. They carry the official British Isles Bowling Council stamp. Most unusual for certain, the GWR labels perpetuated in BR(W) days when the Bowling Club would have still been in full flow..

Nameplate TAWSTOCK COURT. Ex GWR 4-6-0 'Saint' Class locomotive built Swindon Works March 1913 and numbered 2951. First shed allocation Cardiff Canton. In August 1950 she moved to Gloucester until withdrawal in June 1952. Note: Tawstock Court, located in North Devon a few miles south of Barnstaple, has origins in the Doomsday Book. In recent years it became a school. With magnificent views across the Taw Valley, the recent sale of the property has secured it's future for generations to come.

Official GWR Commemorative Plaque bearing the inscription 8.55 AM Birmingham to Paddington Friday 1st July 1910 - First 2 Hour Train - Engine 2902 - Fireman G. Brookes. Mounted on a wooden shield within a horse shoe. The shield is branded 'GWR' on the rear and the central, top hanging hook is also stamped 'GWR'. Measures 9 x 10 approximately and is in excellent condition having hung in the family home for a very long time. Note GWR Engine 2902 was Saint Class Lady Of The Lake.

BR Poster 'British Transport Ships' by Charles King, quad royal size 50 x 40. Shows illustrations of 21 ships used by the company, with a key beneath the image giving the name of each ship. Also, unnoticed by many, what appears to be a green A4 on a passenger train at the end of the pier in the background. Published by the British Transport Commission and printed by Waterlow. Expertly mounted on linen to preserve for future generations.

LNER cast iron Seatback ARDSLEY. Ex Great Northern Railway station between Tingley and Lofthouse & Outwood on the main line and west of Stanley on the LNER & LMS Methley Joint Railway. Opened in 1857, closed in 1964. Famous for the wonderful steam depot just to the south of the station. Cleanly broken in half, not through any letters so could easily be welded. Measures 25

South African Railways dual language, brass Cabside Numberplate E1329 6E1. Ex Series 3.3 kV DC electric locomotive designed and built by Union Carriage and Wagon in Nigel, Transvaal. Electrical equipment supplied by GEC. One hundred and fifty locomotives were delivered between 1971 and 1973, numbered in the range from E1296 to E1445.

GWR porcelain Lamp Tablet MARSTON HALT. Located between Titley Junction and Pembridge on the long gone branch from Leominster to Presteign and New Radnor. A tiny single platform station with nothing more than a lamp to which this tablet was fitted. Closed 7th February 1955. Chances are this is the only piece of Railwayana ever likely to surface from this remote Herefordshire station.

Nameplate NYASALAND. Ex Stanier 4-6-0 'Jubilee' Class locomotive built Crewe Works in October 1934 and numbered 5622, later 45622 by BR. Allocated to the Manchester and London areas on a rotating basis but importantly moved to Burton in 1963 for approximately a year and finally Derby until withdrawal in late 1964, working regular Derby to Bristol turns throughout this period. Scrapped at Cashmore's Great Bridge in late 1964. Note: Nyasaland became Malawi in 1964 upon independence from British rule.

NER Mahogany cased 12 drop dial English fusee clock. The chain driven fusee movement which has recently been cleaned and oiled has rectangular plates with shaped shoulders and is stamped in the back Ex YRK which confirms that the clock was originally sold from the British Railways Collectors corner shop in York sometime in the 1970's. The original dial bears the writing LNER 1335 and has ghosted Smith & Sons Clerknewell which is a rare feature, the excellent quality flame mahogany case which is in original condition has a brass bow tie lenticle window and retains its original cast brass bezel. The LNER clock records show that the clock was in use at Barnard Castle East cabin Signal box , however the back of the case has Seamer West Box marked on it probably indicating a late transfer, altogether a magnificent and rare clock.

Worksplate 'Designed and Supplied By Brush Loco Number 875 - 1986 Brush Electrical Machines Ltd., Loughborough England, a Hawker Siddeley Company - Built By B.R.E.L. Crewe'. Ex prototype, and unique electric loco Class 89 001. Only one unit was built, being the officially named Avocet by the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on 16 January 1989 at Sandy, Bedfordshire, home of the RSPB (whose logo is the Avocet). Used on test-trains on both the West Coast Main Line and East Coast Main Line. Fitted with advanced power control systems developing over 6,000 bhp (4,500 kW). Although nicknamed Aardvark enthusiasts nicknamed it The Badger owing to its sloping front. Ex loco condition.

Nameplate SHREWSBURY CASTLE. Ex GWR 4-6-0 locomotive number 5009, built Swindon June 1927 under Lot No 234 being the 17th Castle Class built under this particular lot. Allocated new to Laira, it swapped between the West Country and the London area for many years. Final allocation in 1948 was Swindon spending the whole BR career there. Withdrawal took place in October 1960 and was cut up on home soil at Swindon Works. A lovely, ex loco plate on the front and back. The back is clearly stamped with the lot number and No 17 as well as 'R' for right-hand plate. Was in singular ownership since being purchased from BR for 37/6d in 1960.

Southern Railway 18 inch mahogany cased fusee dial clock number 10021, as supplied to the SR in 1926 by Grimshaw & Baxter. The chain driven fusee movement is in working condition and comes complete with pendulum and key. The dial has been re written post 1948 by John Walker of London but is in excellent condition, the original cast bezel lacks glass. The Southern Railway clock records show this clock in use at Cannon street Station London concourse (so you might be able to find a photo of it in situ) and before Cannon Street it was in use at Dartford station concourse. A large and impressive clock.

GWR boxed Game 'Race To The Ocean Coast', manufactured by Chad Valley for the Great Western Railway. Complete except the Shaker (as normal) containing the board, three locomotives and the original instructions. Overall extremely good, the box is quite good but does have some edge splitting. London & South Western Railway pocket watch manufactured by the Waltham watch company circa 1895. The 15 jewel movement with top set and wind is in good working condition and is stamped with the serial number 7432739. The Nickel case carries the A L Dennison company stamps of ALD Sun Star and Moon, the rear of the case is Hand engraved S.R. 2469 and although well rubbed the earlier hand engraving of L&SWR Passenger can still be seen.

Smokebox Numberplate 48601. Ex Stanier 2-8-0 Class 8F locomotive, built Eastleigh Works in February 1943 and entered service with the LMS as number 8601. Fitted with a Fowler straight-sided tender which did make the loco look a little odd. Allocated to Willesden for much of the time. Withdrawn June 1965 and cut up at Cashmore's, Great Bridge. Note: This loco, along with breakdown crane, attended the aftermath of the Harrow & Wealdstone disaster.

Autograph Book as used by Walter Rowan, a life-long steward who joined the GWR and worked the Paddington - Swansea Restaurant Car Trains. He became Chief Steward and retired in 1966. A substantial album of 80 autographs of actors and celebrities of the time with that of Jean Simmonds illustrated. The most prominent is undoubtedly that of Ronald Reagan, who was of course an established actor long before becoming President of the USA. Worksplate 'Midland Ry. Built 1922 Derby', oval brass. Ex Northern Ireland Railways NCC 'U 'Class 4-4-0 locomotive, either No 14 or No 15 as these were the only two locos built this year. Both were rebuilt as Class U2's in 1937 becoming No 69 & No 70 respectively. Number 69 was withdrawn in 1954 and Number 70 in 1956. Totally unrestored with all those years of paint layers including maroon.

Totem BR(E) HAVERHILL H/F. Ex GER Station on the Stour Valley Railway in Suffolk, opened 1st June 1865, renamed Haverhill North in July 1923 and reverted back to simply Haverhill in May 1952. Closed 6th March 1967. Good colour and shine small chips in borders only, flange a little damaged.
