Buckinghamshire Railway 12 inch, drop dial, fusee Trunk Clock supplied to the Railway in 1850 by the world renowned Thwaites and Reed of London. The movement number 'T&R 11085' can be traced from the Thwaites and Reed records and these confirm the origin. The case is made from mahogany with a wonderful, flame mahogany veneer to the front. The substantial brass, chain driven fusee movement in fully restored and in fine working condition has the traditional ringed pillars associated with T&R and is also stamped on the front plate 'T&R 11085'. The dial has been repainted by the Western Region post 1948. Additionally, whilst acquiring typical GWR / BR-W broad spade hands, it was also fitted with a BR-W ivorine plate 'BR-WR 4833'. The clock was confirmed by the vendor as having come from Bicester London Road station and this certainly fits in with the Thwaites records as they supplied a clock in 1850 to this location. Possibly one of the earliest Railway Clocks to appear at auction and certainly the first confirmed Buckinghamshire Railway example
