Alloy Key Token MAGPIE GROVE - SANDY Jc. Ex GWR section on the Llanelli to Mynydd Mawr line. Earlier known as the Carmarthenshire Tramroad it was established in 1802 and claimed to be the oldest Public Railway in Britain. It closed in 1844 only to re-open in 1883 operated by the newly formed Llanelly and Mynydd Mawr Railway Co. Absorbed by the GWR in 1922 and later, under BR, was worked as a main artery for coal distribution from the Gwendraeth Valley until the closure of Cynheidre Colliery in 1989. Both Sandy and Magpie Boxes opened in July 1962 and closed in February 1968. Ex box condition.
