The Mahogany drop dial case is in excellent condition and looks stunning the GWR ivorine numberplate 3040 is screwed onto the left hand side of the box, these 14 inch drop dials are very rare and this one features in Ian Lymans book on railway clocks page 88. Housed in original wooden box, this heavy, precision instrument was developed in the 1880s based on the American Tabor design and later Crosby Indicator design. Used to measure locomotive horsepower/drawbar output, original indicators were used as early as 1790 and attributed to James Watt. The instrument looks pretty well complete housing a pair of drums for recording, various springs and other fittings. The original makers plate is inside and a small oval brass plate Sulzer Bros Engineers Norfolk Street, London is affixed to the outside lid. The accompanying Backtrack Magazine from May 2009 carries a comprehensive article on the use of machines of this type, £280

A brass and mahogany cased fusee Guards Watch dating from circa 1837, this important timepiece was used by Guards, set and locked at Euston, then travelled with the Guard so he could confirm the time at the Stations at which they stopped. Certainly in use before Greenwich time signals were sent by Telegraph. The Brass case is engraved to the front George Littleworth Maker London and to the rear London & Birmingham Railway 12 1823. The English Lever fusee movement is in working condition. This is the rarest and most important railway timepiece to ever come onto the market. Complete with the key for the case and a key to wind and set it. George Littleworth is recorded as working in 21 Rahere St in the district of Finsbury London, and is listed as apprenticed in 1789, member of the clockmakers company 1822-1851. £2900

The wire driven fusee movement has shaped shoulders and cut out to the bottom of the plates, tapered pillars with a central ring these features are consistent with a clock produced around 1860. The Oak case with an 8 piece segmented surround is in excellent condition and has GWR ivorine numberplate 668 screwed onto the left hand side of the box. The style of clock is very similar to ones supplied by Joseph Collings of Cardiff to some of the South Wales pre grouping companies. This clock was restored by Dr Parr and is in perfect working condition ready to hang on your wall, complete with pendulum and winding key. £1450

This highly important timepiece is French as is the movement which strikes on half and full hours. In full working condition. Note Edward Newson retired from the Office of the Superintendent of the Line in 1907. He began his career at Ross-on-Wye in 1867 as a Booking Clerk. He became Station Master at Minety near Stroud and then Taplow and in 1879 was appointed Chief Clerk to Alfred Higgins. Became Station Superintendent at Oxford in 1879 and finally in 1882 Superintendent of the GWR Parcels Department. £250

Measuring 9.75 inches in diameter, this very scarce plate is believed to have originated from what was German South West Africa (now Namibia) The initials stand for Kaiserlich Deutsche Elsenbahn Verwaltung which translates to Imperial German Railway Administration. Unlike the more common KPEV plate, this was used on German Colonial Railways and bears a very different spread eagle. The first locos would have been used on the 1895 built Swakopmund to Windhoek line that was completed in 1902. A wonderful plate in lightly cleaned condition. £980

The Dial has been repainted in the original LB&SCR style and the case is stamped 782B, the movement has four spoke wheels, deadbeat escapement, Harrisons maintaining power and a deal pendulum rod with the remnants of its cast zinc cylindrical pendulum bob which will need a suitable replacement, it appears complete and has a weight and weight pulley. It will make an impressive timepiece when restored. 82 inches tall x 23 inches wide. £2400
