101 Poster, Q/R size, Caledonian, Callander & Oban Railway OBAN The Charing Cross Of The Highlands, Travel by Caledonian and Callander and Oban Railways - Excellent New Golf Courses . Poster, Q/R size, Caledonian, Callander & Oban Railway OBAN The Charing Cross Of The Highlands, Travel by Caledonian and Callander and Oban Railways - Excellent New Golf Courses . In the book by John Thomas entitled The Callander & Oban Railway, it says, In 1909 the Caledonian made history by spending GBP1,667 19s 7d on a spectacular coloured poster advertising Oban as a holiday resort. The Callander & Oban Railways share of the cost was GBP450 which the Caledonian Railway agreed to accept in six, half yearly instalments of GBP75. The poster created country-wide interest, the Railway News commenting: Such a picture could only be purchased by some millionaire and would be hid from view in a private gallery. Yet such a scene is at this moment exhibited as a poster on boardings and we can well imagine many weary city toilers will mentally thank the Caledonian Railway Company for giving them the opportunity of feasting their tired eyes on this vivid reproduction of a lovely picture Make no mistake, this is almost certainly unique and even the NRM does not have an example. Folds and some loss/damage but what a poster, a must for preservation. £900

Numbered by the LNER 2747, it became 93 from July 1946 and at nationalisation, 60093 from September 1948. Spent the first 10 years or so at Doncaster moving to Haymarket for the start of WWII. In January 1941, it moved to Carlisle Canal and stayed right up until withdrawal on 24th April 1962. It was Finally cut up at Doncaster in May of that year. A well loved loco but for East Coast main line spotters, it was extremely elusive being firmly entrenched at Canal Depot working the Waverley Route to Edinburgh. The plate is absolutely ex loco condition bearing the later red background but showing clearly the under paint of blue that it received in pre-nationalisation years. The engine was named after the horse that won the 1926 Derby and St.Leger. So wonderful to find an A3 nameplate in this condition and a rare opportunity indeed to own a plate from a thoroughbred Waverley Route locomotive. £23000

Poster, British Railways Q/R Scottish Region, famous un-titled by Terence Cuneo depicting the blue Glasgow suburban Helensburgh Electric Unit passing a steam loco one side and Clyde Tugs the other side. A wonderful execution, as always, by this number one artist. The poster has suffered some damage over time and attempted repairs with cellotape have left marks. There are considerable tears but close inspection shows that the poster is just about all there. This means with a little tlc, it could be brought back to its former glory, especially if it were to be mounted on linen. The colour is still vibrant and despite the damage, it is a quite wonderful scene. £160

87 Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Headlamp manufactured by Eli Griffiths, reputedly carried by the L&BR Locomotive LEW. Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Headlamp manufactured by Eli Griffiths, reputedly carried by the L&BR Locomotive LEW. Came from N. Devon along with the Bratton Fleming .25 Mile Marker elsewhere in the auction. Photographic evidence is scant but a photograph taken in 1935 when LEW had received a re-paint, does show the lamp quite clearly fitted. Three of the four wedge shaped strengthening castings around the front lens can be seen in this photograph. Other photographs do not show this, indicating that this lamp was perhaps the spare known to have been carried on the loco. It is known that each of the L&BR locos carried different lamps so it would be quite possible that even the spares carried by each loco were different too. It is difficult to ascertain precise history but we are reasonably confident of the provenance. £620
