Nameplate MERSEY ex Industrial Locomotive. Standard Gauge 0-4-0DM built by John Fowler No. 22894 of 1940 which was new to J. Crossfield & Sons Ltd. of Warrington. Somewhere along the line its name was transferred to 0-4-0DM John Fowler No. 21909 (formerly Charles Huffam) which was sold in March 1959 to N. Greening & Sons Ltd., Britannia Wire Cloth Works, Warrington. In 1966 No. 21909 passed to T.W. Ward Ltd., Brindle Heath Scrap Yard, Salford, and was scrapped circa 1967. Rectangular brass 16in x 5.5in, in ex loco condition.

GWR Cabside Numberplate 8755. Ex GWR 0-6-0PT built Swindon October 1933 and allocated to Paddington. Moved to South Wales, Pontypool before ending up back at Paddington, probably on shunter duty, in 1955 until withdrawal in December 1957. A copy of the original receipt accompanies, the original is with cabside numberplate 2572.

Totem BR(M) BUSHEY & OXHEY fully flanged. Ex LNWR station, opened 1841 between Watford and Carpenders Park on the West Coast Main Line. Interestingly, during the war when locations were painted out to confuse any enemy landing, the ampersand on the original signs were left visible and the station became known as simply '&'. Good overall condition with a few minor chips.

Nameplate SILKSTONE ex Industrial Locomotive. Standard Gauge 0-4-0ST built by the Hunslet Engine Co No. 1163/1914 new to Pope & Pearson Ltd., West Riding Colliery, Altofts, and to the National Coal Board with site on 1 January 1947. Scrapped sometime between April and September 1962. Rectangular brass 33in x 7in, ex loco condition.

Worksplate Kitson & Co 1899 Leeds. In 1899 Kitson built locos for both the home and overseas railways including the Cardiff Railway, LDECR, Midland Railway, Taff Vale Railway, the Consett Iron Company, Dorman Long, Monk Bretton Colliery and Ireland and India. Unfortunately the history of this plate has been lost but its size makes it a rarity. Oval brass with rear drilled and tapped bosses, 6.25in x 3.75in, ex loco condition

Smokebox Numberplate 43332. Ex LMS 0-6-0 3F locomotive built by Kitson in May 1892, originally numbered 3332. Allocations include Sheffield Grimesthorpe. Withdrawn May 1958. A copy of the original Halifax Railfans receipt accompanies, the original will be with smokebox numberplate 45433.

GWR cast iron Cabside Numberplates 3773 both sides so a pair together with 3773 Smokebox Numberplate. Ex GWR 0-6-0PT built Swindon in May 1938 and allocated for some time to Bristol St Philips Marsh. Later allocation was Cardiff East Dock from where withdrawal took place in October 1962.

Negatives, approximately 170 medium format in two small wallets. Mostly ex GWR and LMS but there are others and all date 1936/37. Quality isn't good, some grainy and out of focus but there are some gems and all are a good record of the pre-war era. The pockets are indexed but mismatched and there is no guarantee as to accuracy.

Nameplate MYTTON HALL. Ex GWR 4-6-0 'Hall' Class locomotive, built Swindon June 1940 and numbered 5996. First and August 1950 shed allocations Old Oak Common. March 1959 shed allocation Southall. Last shed allocation Wolverhampton Oxley from where withdrawal took place in August 1962. Scrapped at Swindon Works. This is the right-hand plate so stamped on the rear. The original BR Swindon receipt accompanies.

Worksplate Rebuilt EV 1920. A very rare Ebbw Vale Steel and Iron Coal Co. Ltd. rebuild plate removed from one of two Standard Gauge 0-4-0STs built by Peckett either No. 933 /1903 Henry Cort or Peckett 1014/1904 Waun Llwyd. Peckett No. 933 became redundant in 1954 and the then owners of Ebbw Vale Works (Richard, Thomas and Baldwins) moved it to their ironstone quarries at Blisworth in July 1957. Three years later it transferred to Irthlingborough Mine and when that operation closed on 30 September 1965 it was offered to the Foxfield Railway as the owners did not wish to see it scrapped. It was moved to Foxfield in February 1967 and today it is exhibited there out of use. No. 1014 remained at Ebbw Vale for all of its life and was scrapped there circa September 1961. Oval brass 8.25in x 6in, ex loco condition.

Nameplate CONQUEST. Ex NBL A1A - A1A Class 41 Warship number D603, built by the North British Locomotive Company Glasgow in November 1958 under Works Number 27663. Allocated to Laira to work West of England Expresses to and from London Paddington. Withdrawn in December 1967 after less than 10 years service, cut up at Cashmore's Newport in November 1968. Ex loco condition with original red paint background and traces of green paint around the edges. First time this side has been on the market.

Nameplate AMIE ex Industrial Locomotive. Standard Gauge Class H 0-4-0ST built by Manning Wardle No 1716 in 1907 and sent new to Staveley Iron & Coal Co. Ltd. where it worked for its lifetime. It was normally kept at Staveley Foundry. To Steel Breaking and Dismantling Co. Ltd., Chesterfield, for scrap in November 1960 where it was broken-up in 1961. Rectangular brass 25in x 6.75in, ex loco condition.

Live Steam unfinished Models, qty 7 to include a 3.5in gauge Duchess; 3. in gauge LBSC 0-4-0 'Titch'; 3.5in gauge LBSC 'Maid Of Kent'; 3.5in gauge LBSC 'Juliet'; 5in gauge 'Ajax'; a LMS 5MT loco and a small American loco with cow-catcher. All are in various state of construction with many parts coming with each. There are also a comprehensive amount of plans and drawings but not checked so no guarantee as to completeness. A wonderful project for the model engineer.

Nameplate Industrial Locomotive GLENTAWE. Ex 0-4-0ST built by Andrew Barclay 1108 of 1907. New to Tirdonkin Collieries Ltd for work at Cefngyfelach Colliery near Swansea. Moved to Clydach Merthyr Colliery and then Cynheidre Colliery from 1961 - 1975 from where it was scrapped. Also worked for a while at Glantawe Iron & Tin Plate Works near Pontardawe where it would have been named as such. Rectangular cast brass with scalloped corners 38 in x 5.3 in.

Nameplate FRINGFORD MANOR. Ex GWR 4-6-0 locomotive built Swindon in January 1939 and numbered 7814. First allocation was Westbury and in August 1950 shed allocation Plymouth Laira. In March 1959 shed allocation was Machynlleth for work over the former Cambrian lines but then moved to Didcot in May 1965 Final shed allocation was Gloucester Horton Road from where withdrawal took place in September 1965. Scrapped at Bird's, Long Marston. This is the left-hand plate, so stamped in the rear. The original BR Swindon receipt accompanies.

Worksplate John Fowler & Co Leeds No 14975. Ex Ministry of Munitions who ordered from Fowlers works numbers 14908 to 14982 in 1917 for WW1.The class of 14975 was TE2,a compound Road Locomotive(or Traction Engine) with horizontal winding drum and overhead slide valves, and supplied new to the War Dept Forage Dept. After the War in March,1920, it passed to Edgar G Edgar of High Street, Kensington who had an agreement with the Disposals Commission to take all equipment etc. from the Forage Dept, though apparently he reneged on a lot of the equipment as they were repossessed by the WD, but not 14975.In 1921 the engine was owned by either the Cole Brothers or E A Foley, info not available. Registration number CT 4849 then passed at an unknown date to A M Carmichael of Corstophine, Edinburgh, and it is thought scrapped in Scotland at an unknown date. There are 7 preserved of this type of engine, all from the batch supplied to the WD around 1917/18,including one at Hay on Wye, two converted to Showman's Spec and one in Germany. Oval brass, curved to fit boiler 9.75in x 5in ex engine condition.

Allocations include Monument Lane and Bescot in the early years before a move to Scotland and allocations to Motherwell and Hamilton. Withdrawn March 1966. An original Halifax Railfans receipt accompanies which includes smokebox numberplate 43332 which will have a copy receipt accompany.

Ex GNR station originally a terminus on the line from Nottingham north of Sherwood, opened as Bestwood and Arnold, later Daybrook for Arnold and Bestwood and finally simply Daybrook. Later lines to Basford North and Bulwell Forest were added. Closed in 1960. Ex station condition.

Single Line fibre Tablet SOUTHILL - BEDFORD No1, bearing the number 26. Ex Midland Railway section on the branch which served stations at Cardington, Southill, Shefford and Henlow in Bedfordshire. Opened in 1857, but was largely made redundant as a through-route to London by the extension of the Midland Main Line to St Pancras. The last passenger train ran in December 1961, but goods lingered until 1964.

Third Edition of Macaulay's Station Map of the Railways in Great Britain, Published in 1854. comprises 42 individual engraved panels on linen contained within strong board covers with the gold embossed title on the front of the book. When fully open the map measures 52in x 36in. Extremely good condition considering the age, a real gem for certain.

Worksplate Andrew Barclay 366/1943, oval brass. Ex Standard Gauge 153hp 0-4-0DM No.1 new to ICI Ltd, Charlesfield Munitions Factory near St. Boswells which they operated on behalf of the Ministry of Supply producing mainly thermite incendiary bombs. The factory closed in 1946 but was reopened by the Admiralty in June 1949 finally ceasing use as a military facility in the early 1960s. Thereafter the site was used for agricultural purposes before an industrial estate was established in the mid 1970s. Face cleaned, rear ex loco.

Nameplate THE BOBBY, ex Class 47 number 47743 originally D1772 built 1964. Named at Bristol Temple Meads on 30/3/95 by the BTP Assistant Chief Constable. The loco was derailed at Shelton Bridge near York on 24/7/95 and fell down a 30' embankment. The nameplates were removed for security reasons but the loco ended up being cut-up, beyond economical repair, at the site of the accident. New plates were fitted, in November 1995, to 47746, originally D1754 built 1964. Plate is a neat, 59 in long, totally ex loco and comes with the EWS certificate of authenticity.

Nameplate BROWNHILL ex Industrial Locomotive. 3ft Gauge 0-4-0ST built by Hunslet No. 832 in 1903 named COOLMORE for T.S. Dixon, contractor, Londonderry, Northern Ireland for work on the County Donegal Railway contract, Stregal-Ballyshannon. Believed for disposal 30 January 1906 and sold to McAlpine the same year becoming 22 in their fleet. Worked on McAlpine's Strabane-Letterkenny contract for the County Donegal Railway 1906-1909 and then by 1912 on their Alwen reservoir contract, North Wales, for Birkenhead Corporation. During 1912 it moved temporarily to their GNR Little Bytham-Stoke widening contract and returned to Alwen towards the end of that year. By 1917 it was in residence at McAlpine's Great Stanney Depot, Ellesmere Port. By March 1924 the loco was acquired by Burnley Corporation for use on the Hurstwood Reservoir Contract believed still named COOLMORE. By December 1924 it was with Lehane, McKenzie & Shand on their Brownhill reservoir contract, near Holmbridge, West Riding, where it received the name BROWNHILL. It was then used on contracts at Gorple reservoir for Halifax Corporation and at Fernilee reservoir for Stockport Corporation moving to Fernilee's Darley Dale plant yard by 4 November 1937.It was still there two years later but was then loaned/hired to Balfour Beatty for the wartime Admiralty contracts in Orkney (Scapa Flow improvement works). It later returned to Lehane's Darley Dale yard but circa 1945 was acquired by William Trigg, dealer, at Matlock and remained in his yard until scrapped in July 1951. Rectangular brass 23.75in x 5.5ins, ex loco condition.

Single line wooden Train Staff, brass plated CRAIG JUNCTION TO END OF BRANCH. Craig Junction, sometimes called Craig Colliery, was on the Glasgow & South Western Railway, between Drybridge and Gatehead, near Kilmarnock, and this staff was rescued by the late John McRobert who was the signalman at Gatehead. When found this staff was being used to break up coal for the box stove, in the locking room of Drybridge cabin, so it's a very lucky and rare survivor! Craig Junction opened in 1904 and closed in October 1932. Measures 17 inches in length.

Liverpool & Great Western Steam Ship Company epns Jug and a large Sugar Bowl, both manufactured by Elkington Plate. Two extremely attractive items bearing the company name. Note: Stephen Guion, part-owner of the New York-Liverpool Old Black Star Line of sailing packets and manager of Cunard's emigrant business (1862-1866), set up his own steamship line, Liverpool and Great Western Steamship Co. or Guion Line, in 1866. Guion's death in 1885, poor traffic and the high cost of its big fast ships led to its winding up in 1894.

Worksplate 'Nasmyth Wilson & Co Limited No 831 - 1907 Patricroft Manchester' triangular brass. Ex County Donegal Railway Joint Committee 2-6-4T class 5 Locomotive No 19 LETTERKENNY later FINN. Withdrawn in 1940 this loco was one of two scrapped out of only 5 built, three being preserved. A rare survivor from a wartime scrapping.

Nameplate CALCOT GRANGE. Ex GWR 4-6-0 Grange Class locomotive no 6833. Built Swindon in August 1937 and initially allocated to Oxley. Moved to Leamington in August 1950 then in March 1959 to Bristol, St. Philip's Marsh. Returned to Oxley from where withdrawal took place in October 1965. Scrapped at G. Cohen, Kettering.

Worksplate Associated Electrical Industries 1960. British Railways Standard Gauge Class 15 Bo-Bo Diesel Electric locomotive in the number series D8237 to D8243. This batch was withdrawn between 1968 and 1971 but two survived as carriage heating units until 1985 (D8237 as ADB968002) and 1991 (D8243 as ADB968001). The class were troubled by several reliability problems notably with the engines which were found to require excessive maintenance. Nevertheless they had some success and were considered better than some of the other contemporary Type 1s but they eventually became redundant to requirements with a decline in freight duties in the London area. Alloy 17in x 5in stamped 'A 142' in rear. Ex loco with original green paint on face.

Totem BR(W) BADMINTON, half flanged. Ex GWR station on the Paddington - South Wales route, opened in July 1903, closed under Beeching in June 1968 which was the year that Jane Bullen famously won the Badminton Horse Trials on Our Nobby. Good colour and shine, overall excellent with just a minor chip on the letter 'A' and on the bottom flange.

Smokebox Numberplate 60095. Ex Gresley 4-6-2 A3 Class FLAMINGO. Built Doncaster in 1929 under works number 1707 and carried the original LNER number 2749. Renumbered 558 in 1946 and then 95 a few months later. Allocated new to Carlisle Canal becoming one of the famous life-long residents at that depot. Withdrawn April 1961. The original BR(E) receipt accompanies. Note: Flamingo was the racehorse that won the 1928 2000 Guineas.

At the bottom there is the address of Head Office at the Coach Station Cheltenham Tel 3067. Measures 30.5in x 20in and is in extremely good condition with only minor chips around a few bolt holes.

Nameplate ANDREW K. McCOSH. Ex Gresley A4 Pacific built Doncaster in August 1937 under Works No 1859 and numbered 4494. Originally named OSPREY, it was renamed in October 1942 after the Director and Chairman of the Locomotive Committee of the Board. In 1946 it was renumbered by the LNER to 596 and very quickly to No 3. Finally, in March 1949 it became BR number 60003. It was a long time Kings Cross and Grantham loco, switching between the two regularly. Withdrawn in December 1962. The plate is in two parts, one being 39.625in x 7.5in the other 47.375in x 7.5in, making the overall measurement is 87in long.

GWR crossing keepers warning bell, complete with machine engraved shelf type plate KNIGHTS CROSSING. The Mahogany case is stamped twice on the front GWR and on the back GWR MAKERS PADD AY and comes complete with a miniature church bell. A rare item indeed. Knights crossing was on the line between Midgham and Colthrop in Berkshire.

Worksplate F.C. Hibberd & Co Ltd Planet Loco No 3576. Standard Gauge 4wDM ex-works on 7 January 1953 and sent new to the Royal Navy Victualing Depot at Botley in Hampshire. It spent all its working life there and was sent to Birds at Long Marston for scrap in 1969. Oval brass, ex loco condition.

GNR Theodolite housed in a fitted mahogany box, clearly stamped 'GNR'. Made by John Davies & Sons Derby as the label clearly shows and also with a date of 5/3/11. The box is brass plated 'District Engineer'. Together with a LNWR Thermometer in a fitted mahogany box with hinges stamped with company initials. A pair of quality instruments.

Nameplate PACKWOOD HALL. EX GWR 4-6-0 'Hall' Class locomotive built Swindon August 1929 and numbered 4949. First shed allocation Wolverhampton, Stafford Road. August 1950 shed allocation Taunton. Fitted with BR type piston valves and liners February 1957 but reverted back to WR standard within two years. In March 1959 the loco moved to Bristol, St. Philip's Marsh remaining there until withdrawal from Bristol, Barrow Rd, where withdrawn engines tended to be stored, in September 1964. Scrapped at Bird's, Llanelly. Totally ex loco, stamped on rear with Lot No and also No 49 L indicating the left hand plate.

Poster World War II Beware the Squander Bug. The Squander Bug was a World War II propaganda character created by the British National Savings Committee to discourage wasteful spending. Originally designed by freelance illustrator Phillip Boydell for press adverts, the character was widely used by other wartime artists in poster campaigns and political cartoons. It is one of the few propaganda campaigns from World War II to be fully documented from the original concept sketches to the finished adverts. This original Poster has been overprinted on the back, Birmingham GAS Department Raid On Germany 27th October 1943 , asking for Money for bombs by November 1943 for Raids on Germany, the cost of Bombs is each pound weight costs Ten pence, each Thousand pounds costs

GWR 12 inch fusee trunk drop dial as obtained from Marland House in Cardiff, unfortunately the backbox was broken and is now missing. The lot consists of Original wooden surround, bezel, original dial and fusee movement circa 1870.
